Times in print are getting tougher by the day, ads placed in stories now

With competition from online news sources, and an unwillingness to cover all the news, hard line and hard pressed media outlets are turning to ads in stories.

Most Arizona Daily Star readers have grown accustomed to Fitz hawking his poor quality cartoons on mugs, calendars, and of all things Christmas ornaments. Few ever thought the Star would resort to promoting their laid off help/editor’s husband in a “news” story label The Scoop. It is hard to imagine that the writer had to file a Freedom of Information Act Request and hang out around the front steps of the Gassen household to get that “scoop.”

It is tough times in Tucson indeed. Most of the tough times come as a result of the local hard line media not covering the news people know is there, but can’t ferret out themselves. Any way, we thought we’d join in the cause…… “Filmmaker” Timothy Gassen, re-released his documentary “Gretzky, Indy and The WHA.” It is about hockey which is a wildly popular sport in Arizona, and “the two-disc film is available for $20 at http://www.wharacers.com/ordering.html”

According to the ad/scoop in the Star, “Gassen is putting the finishing touches on a documentary about Bobby Hull and the Winnipeg Jets, and will next make a film about Gordie Howe and his sons. He said both movies will come out on DVD next year.”

and they are hawking their books too……
