Brewer appoints two to State Board of Education

Governor Brewer announced the appointment of Roger L. Jacks to the Arizona State Board of Education, this week. Mr. Jacks will replace Vicki McLeod Balentine, whose term expired in January.

Amy Hamilton has been re-appointed to the Board for a second term.

Since 2008, Mr. Jacks has been the Superintendent of Schools for Kingman Unified School District. He previously served Kingman Unified School District as Assistant Superintendent (2007-2008) and Director of Human Resources (2006-2007).

Mr. Jacks’ prior administrative roles include: Principal of Desert Pines High School (2002-2006); Assistant Principal (1999-2002) and Dean of Students (1998-1999) of Rancho High School; Coordinator for Rancho High School Magnet Academies (1996-1998), where he implemented and managed aviation and medical academies; and Northwest Director of Air Force ROTC Programs (1992-1993), where he was responsible for aerospace education programs at 36 major universities and 35 high schools in 19 states.

Amy Hamilton was reappointed to the Arizona Board of Education for a second term. Ms. Hamilton has been teaching for 13 years. Currently, she teaches 1st Grade for Mesa Public Schools.

“Both Amy and Roger bring to the Board of Education a passion for children’s learning,” said Governor Brewer. “I am pleased that two individuals of their caliber and experience are willing to give of their time and energy for this noble cause.”
Mr. Jacks and Ms. Hamilton will serve four-year terms, expiring January 18, 2016.
