On the afternoon of June 18, 2012, 10 month old, Winter Breeze Azure, was removed from life support and pronounced deceased. As a result of the death of Winter Breeze Azure, Zada Davis was located and arrested yesterday, June 19, 2012. She was transported and booked into the Pima County Jail for an added charge of 2nd Degree Murder.
On June 12, 2012, the Tucson Fire Department requested assistance from the Tucson Police Department at an apartment located at 3636 North Campbell Avenue. Tucson Fire Department personnel initially responded to a report of a 10-month old female child, Winter Breeze, who was found unconscious and not breathing in a bath tub full of water. Upon arrival, they immediately administered CPR and rushed Winter Breeze to a local hospital.
Detectives learned that Davis, was caring for the baby as well as two additional children on June 12, 2012. Davis put Winter in the bathtub at some time between 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. She left the water running with toys in the tub for the baby to play with. Davis then began doing other things in the residence, leaving Winter alone in the bathroom. After approximately 10 minutes, Davis returned to the bathroom and discovered that the bathtub was overflowing with water, and the child was floating in the water. After removing Winter from the water, she called 911 for emergency medical assistance.
A neighbor performed CPR until Tucson Fire Department personnel arrived. It should be noted that neither of the other children, including an 8-month old baby and a 7-year old (Ms. Davis’ child), were involved in the incident or otherwise injured.
