Scottsdale City Manager resigns cites lack of support

City Manager David E. Richert submitted his resignation on Monday, July 2. The resignation is effective immediately. Mr. Richert joined the city in 2008 and served the last two years as city manager.

Mr. Richert stated that he felt there was not sufficient support by the Mayor and City Council to remain effective in his position.

The City Council met with Mr. Richert Monday as part of his annual review, and continued that agenda item to Tuesday. At Tuesday’s meeting the Council may consider appointing an acting city manager.

If that does not occur, Bill Murphy, community services executive director, will serve as acting city manager until July 9, at which time Public Safety Executive Director Alan Rodbell will assume the position. This order of succession is established by Resolution 8755 approved by the City Council on July 6, 2011.

The Mayor W.J. “Jim” Lane, released a statement on the resignation; “I would like to thank David Richert for his dedicated service during a very challenging period in Scottsdale.”
