Tucson Police to patrol theaters in wake of Aurora shooting

Although this morning’s tragic event appears to have been an isolated incident and no similar type of actions or threats have been made in Tucson, the Tucson Police will increase its resources and provide additional uniform officers at movie theatres and other places and events that attract a large gathering of people.

These resources will remain in place for an undetermined amount of time. TPD is reminding the community “to live your normal lives, without apprehension but remain vigilant. Keep your eyes open and be aware of your surroundings, and please do not hesitate to report any suspicious activity to police immediately.”

TPD advises the community that “after tragic incidents, such as this mornings shooting in Colorado, we often find out the suspect had some type of mental instability and friends and family of the suspect often make statements similar to, “we saw this coming.”

Police say that if you know anyone who fits this description and is exhibiting increased signs of violent tendencies, notify the proper authorities to include law enforcement or the appropriate mental health care professionals.
