“How To Moderate” workshop offered by League of Women Voters

The League of Women Voters Of Greater Tucson is presenting a free workshop on “How To Moderate.” Organizations interested in planning a panel discussion, a forum, or a candidate debate are encouraged to participate.

The workshop will be held Saturday, August 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Pima County Housing Center, 801 West Congress St. (¼ mile west of I-10). Attendees must RSVP to 327-7652 or 326-3018.

“Those who have taken the training in the past (we tend to offer it yearly) have appreciated it,” said League member Shirley Muney. “The tips can apply to any kind of public gathering, not just candidate debates. The main points are crowd control and panel control.”

TU4SD co-founder Rich Kronberg praised the League’s support for TU4SD’s 2010 TUSD Governing Board debate. “We were grateful to the the League for their help in planning and promoting our candidate forum. As it turned out, the TU4SD forum was the single opportunity voters had to see all four candidates for Governing Board debate live during the entire campaign. Without the assistance of the League of Women Voters, the public might not have had an opportunity to become aware of TU4SD’s debate, the candidates, and the issues facing the district.”

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government. It influences public policy through education and advocacy.
