Man shot in Green Valley domestic dispute

On August 4, 2012, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department received a call from a woman who reported that her boyfriend had shot another male, later identified as 28-year-old Anthony Wayne Peters. The shooting occurred in the 400 block of West Apero Drive in Green Valley.

Deputies of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Green Valley District responded to the scene. They received assistance by officers of the Sahuarita Police Department. Mr. Peters’ vehicle was located a short distance south of the incident location on La Canada Drive. It had gone off the roadway and came to rest down a slight embankment. Deputies found Peters just outside of the car and rendered aid. Despite these efforts, Peters was pronounced dead at the scene. Peters had an apparent gunshot wound.

Detectives learned that Peters and his girlfriend, identified as 23-year-old Kristina M. Dunkel, were involved in a physical domestic dispute earlier that morning. Ms. Dunkel was able to escape to a neighbor’s house.

Peters later showed up at the neighbor’s residence and forced his way inside. He forced Ms. Dunkel back outside and into his car. The neighbor, identified as 35-year-old Alexander George Cleveland, also came outside. Ms. Dunkel was able to escape from Peters again.

Ms. Dunkel recalled that when she escaped from the car and ran off, she heard gunfire and then saw Peters drive off in his car. Mr. Cleveland admitted that he discharged his weapon.

No arrests were made. The matter is still under investigation.
