CBP agents arrested a 24-year-old mom, Stephanie Schrider, from Blaire, Oklahoma, traveling with her two minor children, on Saturday for allegedly attempting to smuggle marijuana and heroin into the United States through the Lukeville Port.
Customs and Border Protection officers referred Schrider for a secondary inspection of her Chevy truck when she attempted to enter the United States. A physical search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of marijuana packages (approximately 83 pounds) concealed throughout the truck and two packages of heroin (almost five pounds).
CBP officers seized the drugs, with a combined value of almost $105,000, and truck. Schrider was arrested and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. Her children were released to a family member without further incident.
CBP officers are seeing more and more parents smuggling drugs with their kids in tow.
