PCSO deputies to come face to face with offenders
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigations Division engaged in operations this weekend to ensure that registered sex offenders within Pima County are in compliance. Deputies set about verifying the information provided by offenders at the time of their registration.
Arizona law requires convicted sex offenders to update information about living arrangements with the Department of Public Safety annually, or more often if they move from one place to another. In addition, registrants are required to maintain an Arizona driver’s license or Identification card from the Motor Vehicle Division that must also be renewed yearly.
The Sheriff’s Office says that the “deployment offers a unique opportunity to make in-person contact with registrants who might otherwise never see a law enforcement official. Sheriff’s Department personnel will also be able to address any problems that may be related to offenders in the area during this deployment.”
The checks involve face-to-face contact and interviews by PCSO officers with household members or sometimes neighbors to confirm residency and accuracy of information.
