Speaker of the House Andy Tobin has announced the final list of House Committee assignments for Arizona’s 51st Legislature.
Tobin’s selections were primarily based on expertise. For example, newly elected Ethan Orr, who has spent years working in the area of job training will serve on the Higher Education & Workforce Development.
The Yellow Sheet reports that Representative Seel said that his name was absent from the list of committee chairs” in retaliation for his support of Representative Smith’s bid for Speaker of the House. “If I have a parking spot down there, I’ll be surprised. My security badge may already be deactivated. By law the only thing they have to let me in there to do is vote on bills… They may not even put me on any committees.” However Tobin told the Yellow Sheet “that he wanted to put the best people in the best positions in the House. “Sometimes, there’s only so many committees to go around. That’s really the truth – we have an awful lot of talent and we’re trying to use all the talent the best we can.”
