Last Friday, January 25, 2013, Pima County Sheriff’s Office detectives were called to a local hospital reference a possible child abuse incident on January 25. At the hospital, investigators learned that the mother of an 8-month-old baby boy had brought her son to the hospital after she noticed that he was unresponsive.

The infant was evaluated by medical staff, and it was determined that he was in critical condition and not breathing on his own. Upon further examination, injuries consistent with physical abuse were noted. As a result, the baby boy was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

The mother told investigators that she had left her son in the care of her close friend while she went to work.

Detectives learned that the child had been choked several times.

Wednesday morning, January 30, detectives with the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit received notification that the infant had been taken off life support and had passed away at approximately 2:55 a.m. The suspect, Jeremy Millis, had previously been released from jail on bond.

Detectives went to his parent’s house this morning and found Millis there. He was rearrested at approximately 9:25 a.m., this time on a charge of First Degree Murder. Millis was transported and booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center.
