On February 3, 2013, at approximately 5:20 p.m., the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue Unit responded to assist an 18 year old male who fractured his ankle while hiking the Finger Rock Trail with members of his family.
Emergency Medical technicians with the unit tended to and immobilized the male’s injured ankle. Unit members secured the male into a Stokes Basket (rescue stretcher) and carried him for over a mile on precarious terrain evacuating him safely. He was transported by his family to seek further medical attention.
The Search and Rescue Unit was supported by the Southern Arizona Rescue Association volunteers.
