Members with the Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers (SAV) who were watching over the site of an airplane crash that occurred earlier in the day were approached by a female on February 8, at about 3:14 p.m. She told the volunteers she had possibly located a human body in the desert area not far from the airplane crash site.
The volunteers then notified deputies, who initiated an investigation. The woman pointed them to a location on South Postvale Road, just north of Ajo Highway. She told deputies that she had been walking her dog together with her kids. When the dog ran off into the desert, she followed it and discovered the scene. Upon initial assessment, deputies found what had the appearance of a human body wrapped in a blanket just east of the roadway in the desert area. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit were called out to take over the investigation. Once the cloth around the body was removed, detectives discovered the body of an unidentified adult male individual. Decomposition had begun to set in indicating that the deceased had been out in the elements for a while.
Anyone who made suspicious observations in the area prior to the discovery of the body or with any other possible information on this case is urged to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME. The investigation continues.
