Murder suspect arrested at Pueblo High School

Pima County deputies made an arrest in the homicide of Jesus Duarte, age 19, that occurred on March 3, 2013 in the 6400 block of South Camino De La Tierra. Detectives arrested Sammy Terraza, age 17, afternoon at Pueblo High School, after the he attempted to run away.

The initial incident occurred shortly before midnight on March 3. Deputies responded to a report of shots fired at the address on Camino De La Tierra where they found Duarte critically injured. He was transported to a hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

At the incident location, detectives learned that people had heard a man pleading for his life followed by several gun shots. Through their investigation, detectives learned that the victim had an intimate affair with a female who was in a relationship with the person later identified as Terraza. Evidently, Terraza lured Duarte outside of his residence on the night of the murder and then shot him multiple times.

Detectives followed investigative leads and came to Pueblo High School where they observed the suspect’s vehicle. When they located Terraza himself, he attempted to run away but was apprehended and taken into custody at approximately 12:30 p.m. on March 5.

Terraza was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center on a charge of First Degree Murder.
