Tucson marijuana grow operation uncovered

On March 14, South Tucson Police Officers were on routine patrol in the area of South 6th Avenue and West 35th Street when they noticed an odor of fresh marijuana. Officers located the odor of fresh marijuana coming from a warehouse/residence in the area.

Detectives responded and obtained a search warrant for the warehouse/residence.

The warehouse/residence was on a fenced lot. Part of the warehouse had been converted into a residence and it was obvious that someone was living there, but no one was home at the time the warrant was served. The other portions of the warehouse had been converted into a sophisticated marijuana grow operation. Detectives located 356 marijuana plants growing inside the residence and over 53 pounds of cultivated hydroponic marijuana in the warehouse and in the residence within the structure.

Large amounts of marijuana grow equipment was located in separate rooms of the warehouse.

Detectives also located $18,000 in U.S. Currency inside the residence portion of the structure.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
