A forensic investigation of their daughter’s cell phone and iPad confirmed the allegations. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Jonathon Dewayne Peterson, was interviewed and subsequently arrested. He was arrested on February 8, 2013 on charges of Sexual Abuse and Furnishing Obscene Material to a Minor.
The 13-year-old victim revealed that she had personal contact with the suspect, who is a friend of the family, and alleged that the suspect had touched her breasts. Based on the information and evidence collected, detectives obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence and executed the warrant on February 8, 2013.
In an independent and separate investigation, detectives with the Tucson Police Department also identified Peterson as a suspect. They discovered that Peterson was already under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department and contacted detectives here. The two agencies cooperated in the matter and found evidence that Peterson had sent sexually explicit pictures to another minor in Tucson and requested to have sex with the girl.
Based on the new findings, Peterson was located with the help of the United State Marshal Service and arrested again yesterday, March 20, 2013. He was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center on a charge of Aggravated Luring of a Minor and several charges of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor as a result of the investigations by both departments
Detectives with both agencies, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the Tucson Police Department, suspect that there may be additional local victims who have not yet been identified or come forward. Possible victims and their parents are encouraged to contact 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME.
