Maricopa County shelter to kick off “dog days” of summer

Triple digit temperatures mean triple digit intake for Maricopa County Animal Care & Control. April 29th marked the first day of the year when more than 100 animals were received by shelters in a single day.

This is only the beginning; higher intakes are standard throughout the summer months. To kick off those “dog days” of summer and the Cinco De Mayo weekend, Maricopa County Animal Care & Control is celebrating with discounted adoption fees at all MCACC locations. From May 5th through May 31st, all dogs are only $5.00 to adopt, plus $17 dog license fee. Cats over 3 months of age have a zero adoption fee.

Andy Kunasek, Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, urges the community to think about adoption. “Dogs and cats make great companions. They have so much love to offer.” he said. “You will also be saving a life when you adopt from a shelter.”
