Pima County DUI checkpoints for graduation weekend

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department DUI Unit has scheduled a sobriety checkpoint for the upcoming weekend. The upcoming sobriety checkpoint will be deployed on Saturday, May 18th, 2013, in conjunction with traffic and alcohol enforcement efforts during graduation weekend.

The Sheriff’s Department is reminding motorists of the dangers of impaired driving.

Data collected in 2006 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), revealed that 64 percent of all drivers ages 15 to 20 involved in fatal traffic crashes had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level of.08 or higher and died as a result of the crash.

The Sheriff’s Office says that “Graduation night is a big event for young adults. Help them make the right choice; don’t let a poor decision ruin the life of your son or daughter or the life of someone else. Help us keep them safe!”
