Detectives from the Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit responded to continue the investigation. They determined that the 9-year old girl was in an aisle away from her mother’s view when the suspect approached her and began tickling her. The suspect then picked up the girl and began to pull her towards him. The girl resisted and began screaming. The suspect released the girl and fled the store.
On May 28, 2013, an employee of the business contacted 911 to report that the suspect was back inside the store. Officers responded and detained the individual pointed out to them by the employee. SORT Detectives responded and determined that the individual detained was the suspect from the attempted abduction days prior. He was identified as 51-year old William Schirmer. He was arrested and booked into Pima County Jail for 1 count of Kidnapping, 1 count of Attempted Kidnapping and 1 count of Aggravated Assault. A booking photograph is included below.
The Tucson Police Department is concerned there may be other victims who may have been touched inappropriately by Mr. Schirmer. Anyone with information is urged to contact 911 or 88-CRIME.
