Customs and Border Protection officers arrested Carolina Garibay, 27, a U.S. citizen presently living in San Luis, Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico, after a narcotics detection canine alerted officers to packages of methamphetamine within the vehicles rocker panels and rear bumper. The drugs, with a total weight of more than 35 pounds and worth an estimated $545,600, were seized.
A short time earlier, officers referred Jesse James Lopez, 20, of Phoenix, for an additional inspection of his Jeep SUV. After a narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs, officers located 10 packages of meth concealed within the vehicles quarter panels, with a total weight of nearly 12 pounds and an estimated value of more than $179,000.
CBP officers also referred Hector Salcido, 53, of San Pedro, Calif., for an additional inspection of his Ford truck, this morning. After a narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs, officers located packages of meth concealed within the vehicles gas tank, with a total weight of more than 32 pounds and an estimated value of more than $497,800.
The drugs and vehicles were seized. Garibay, Lopez, and Salcido were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
