A suspect has been arrested in connection with a narcotics investigation by members of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office HIDTA Task Force that uncovered 625 lbs. of marijuana, several weapons and $189,000 in cash in a Laveen, Arizona residence. The suspect, Alonso Molina Chacon, 35, was arrested on July 10, 2013.
A stolen AR-15 5.56mm pistol, along with two stolen H&K .22 caliber MP-5 machine gun style pistols, were among the weapons found on the scene. Additionally, detectives seized 5 vehicles, 2 ATV’s and 4 semi-automatic handguns, after executing a search warrant. The marijuana was located in the shed on the house property.
“We continue to crack down on international drug trafficking,” said Sheriff Joe Arapio. “Just recently we seized 51 pounds of methamphetamine – a record amount. And, in the last five weeks, we have now seized nearly 4000 pounds of marijuana in two operations. The marijuana smugglers admitted to being in the U.S. illegally.”
Chacon was booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on the following charges: Possession of Marijuana, Possession for Sale, Money Laundering, Possession of Stolen Property, and Misconduct Involving Weapons.
Chacon admitted to detectives that he is in the country illegally. The investigation into Chacon’s activities is continuing.
