On October 2, about 12:45 p.m., Pima County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a rescue call at mile post 15 on General Hitchcock Highway. While en route, they were advised a local hiker found 65-year old David Webster dangling from a rock.
When deputies arrived, they could see Mr. Webster but were unable to get close enough to assess his medical condition. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue Unit, Southern Arizona Rescue Association and Mount Lemmon Fire Department responded to assist.
Rescue personnel hiked to Mr. Webster’s location and determined he was deceased from unknown causes. Mr. Webster was known to be an avid rock climber in the area.
