Elderly female attacked at the Tanque Verde swap meet

On October 12, 2013, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Pima County deputies responded to the Tanque Verde Swap Meet, located at 4100 South Palo Verde Road, in reference to a 74-year-old victim who had been assaulted in the parking lot.

The victim told deputies she was attempting to leave the Swap Meet but there was a vehicle blocking her parking space. The driver of the vehicle appeared to be speaking to another person and didn’t notice her. The victim waited a few minutes before using her horn to get the other driver’s attention. The driver moved his vehicle out of the way and parked it in a parking space. As the victim drove by, the suspect approached her vehicle and began to yell and curse at her. He also threw rocks at the victim’s vehicle.

The victim got out of her vehicle and asked the suspect what his problem was. The suspect slapped her on the left cheek and spit on the right side of her face. The victim returned to her vehicle and locked the doors. The suspect kicked the fender of her car and tried to open the door. The victim drove her vehicle to the vendor entrance and reported the incident to Swap Meet employees.

The suspect is described as:

  •      Hispanic male
  •      Wearing a white shirt and red ball cap
  •      Driving a late model Dodge car

The Sheriff’s Department Robbery/Assault Unit is trying to identify the suspect in this case. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME.
