Tucson Police Bomb Squad personnel responded to the scene. They examined the devices in place and determined the objects were in fact improvised explosive devices. The objects were moved to another location where further investigation was conducted and the items were rendered safe.
Detectives from the Special Investigations Division responded to continue the investigation. They determined that a passerby found the objects and immediately reported the incident to staff at the Silverbell Inn and contacted 911.
Detectives worked throughout the night and were able to identify the suspect in this incident as 30-year-old Scott Johnson. Mr. Johnson was located in the late evening hours by patrol officers near Grant Road and Stone Avenue. He was arrested and booked into the Pima County jail for 6 counts of Misconduct Involving Weapons.
