Douglas drive-by shooter arrested

On Saturday December 21, 2013, at approximately 4:00 a.m., a man notified Douglas Police Department that someone had just shot at him. The man said that he and his girlfriend were in his vehicle in the 2000 block of 23rd Street in Douglas when a vehicle drove by, and someone shot at them several times.

The Douglas Police Department responded to the area along with Sheriff’s Deputies and located the man’s vehicle which appeared to have multiple bullet holes in it. They also locate several shell casings and a holster in the street.

The information provided by the victims was used to issue an attempt to locate a 2005 white 3/4 ton Chevy truck being driven by 28-year-old Jesus Munoz of Douglas.

At approximately 5:00 a.m., United States Border Patrol agents advised that they were behind the vehicle at mile post 52 on Highway 191. The vehicle was stopped at mile post 60, and the driver was identified as Jesus Munoz, who was taken into custody without incident. Sheriff’s Detectives responded and recovered a handgun believed to be used in this incident.

Jesus Munoz was booked into the Cochise County Detention Center on the following charges:

Attempted 1st Degree Murder x2

Reckless Handling of a Firearm x2

Endangerment x2

Intimidation/Stalking x2
