On January 1, 2014, at 3:49 a.m., Tucson Police Department officers responded to a report from a caller, who stated that multiple subjects were fighting in the street, and that a vehicle had ran over several of the people involved.
Officers found three individuals down in the street, and all appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. One of the victims, a female, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A male victim was transported to a local area hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival.
The third victim, another female, was transported to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries. Officers located the vehicle involved abandoned in the desert area just west of Campbell Avenue and Sunland Vista. The suspect was not located.
Initial statements from witnesses indicated that the vehicle intentionally ran over the victims after a physical confrontation.
Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a potential witness. According to witnesses, a yellow sedan with the words “Yellow Cab” on the side dropped a male and female off on the side of the road in the 2200 block of East Sunland Vista around 3:45 a.m. Shortly after the cab left the area, a vehicle approached the male and female, and a verbal altercation ensued between them. The altercation turned physical between the two parties. One of the males involved in the incident got into a vehicle and intentionally ran over the three victims. It is unclear which party the suspect driver was originally with.
Detectives believe that one of the female victims was an occupant of the vehicle when it arrived.
The female that was located deceased at the scene was identified as a 47-year-old female. The male that succumbed to his injuries at the hospital was identified as a 32-year-old male. The other victim is a 43-year-old female and remains in a local area hospital with life threatening injuries.
Detectives are not releasing a suspect description at this time but are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the cab driver involved in this incident. Detectives have contacted “Yellow Cab” and other cab companies in the Tucson area, but they have been unsuccessful in identifying the cab or the cab driver. This person is believed to be a valuable witness into what occurred.
Anyone with information on the cab, the cab driver or any other information is urged to contact 911 or 88-CRIME.
