SWAT negotiates peaceful end to Redington suicide threat

On Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Rincon District deputies responded to the report of a suicidal male on Redington Pass Road. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a distraught male armed with a handgun. Deputies negotiated with the male for an extended period of time; however, he refused to put the weapon down.

The Pima Regional Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team was requested and responded to the scene with the Sheriff’s Department Mental Health Support Team (MHST). SWAT negotiators took over communication with the suicidal male. After a long but successful negotiation process, the male put his weapon down and was taken into custody unharmed. He was transported to a local medical facility for treatment.
