Only The Best in Tucson

This week in Tucson, the Best Golfers and the Best Rodeo Cowboys in America are competing at the Accenture Match and the Fiesta De Los Vaqueros.

But did you know that the Best Trap Shooters in the USA are also in Tucson?

The Tucson Trap and Skeet Club at 7800 Old Ajo Highway is hosting the annual Amateur Trap Shooting Association “Spring Grand” February 19 through March 2. Over 1,000 shotgun shooters are in Tucson to compete for the next two weeks against the best trap shooting masters in America. The entry list looks like the ATA All American Team roster. Trap Shooting Hall of Fame members Harlan Campbell, Leo Harrison and Susan Nattrass are all in attendance.

More than one million targets will be launched in the air during this tournament and the wind, rain, sleet or snow won’t stop these intrepid shooters from breaking most of these targets before they hit the ground.

This match is the second largest in the United States, second only to the Grand American held every year in Sparta, Illinois.

The Tucson Trap and Skeet Club is one of the largest clubs of its kind in the United States and has been rated in the top ten in the world for Olympic Style Trap and Skeet. The Club has been at its present location since 1976 and was first opened in 1948 in the Pantano Wash.

The one mile long trap line has Fifty ATA Trap Houses, Thirteen Skeet Fields, Five Olympic Bunkers, Two Sporting Clays Courses and Two Archery Ranges (Archery Ranges are under construction).

The 9000 square foot club house contains within its brick walls, a restaurant, bar (Bar is for Members and guests only), Pro Shop, lounge and free Wi Fi. There are also 200 full service RV spaces (for use by club members only).

Tucson Trap and Skeet is the home of one of the largest youth Scholastic Clay Target Program teams in Arizona, The Sonoran Shotgun Club at The University of Arizona (The first shotgun club in the Pac 12) and it is a Certified Training Center for USA Shooting, which is the National Governing Body for the Olympic Shooting Sports.

The club is available for use by 4 H programs, The Boy and Girl Scouts of America and has been used by Arizona Game and Fish for Hunter Education classes.

In April this year, Tucson will host the International Shooting Sports Federation World Cup Shotgun competition; 300 competitors from 50 different countries are expected to attend.

Tucson was the host to the 2012 ISSF World Cup and the USA Olympic Team Selection Match.

It has been estimated that The Tucson Trap and Skeet Club contributes over 10 Million Dollars to the yearly Tucson economy.

The public is invited to attend. For more information go to WWW.Tucson Trap and Skeet.Com
