Alcohol may have played role in deadly Kolb Road crash

At approximately 2:00 p.m., on March 6, 2014, Tucson Police Department officers responded to a serious injury vehicle collision on South Kolb Road between East Valencia Road and East Irvington Road. Two vehicles were involved in the collision in which the driver and sole occupant of a Toyota Avalon; 66-year old John R. MacIntire, was transported by medical personnel to a local area hospital where he was pronounced dead after arrival.

The driver and passenger from one of the vehicles were not injured.

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to the scene to investigate the collision. They were able to determine that a 2000 Toyota Tundra, driven by 25-year old Anthony William Thierry, was traveling southbound on South Kolb Road. The Toyota Avalon, was traveling northbound on South Kolb Road. The Toyota Tundra crossed over the raised median and struck the Toyota Avalon head-on.

Anthony William Thierry, was booked into the Pima County Jail on one count of 2nd Degree Murder, one count of Endangerment and one count of Felony Criminal Damage. It appears that alcohol and possibly other substances may have played a role in the collision.
