Pima County 911 fails, 54 calls were not answered

On the afternoon of March 17, 2014 for 23 minutes, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department experienced an unintended interruption of service in the 9-1-1 system, which affected the unincorporated area of Pima County, including the Town of Sahuarita.

Representatives from CenturyLink and Cassidian Communications were on-site at the time of the interruption and began working on a solution to restore services immediately. During the interruption in 9-1-1 services, 54 calls were not answered. 9-1-1 services were restored at 3:06 p.m. and we immediately attempted to contact all callers to determine if they still required services.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office is currently working with the 9-1-1 telecommunications provider, CenturyLink, and our equipment supplier, Cassidian Communications, to identify the root cause of the interruption.
