TPD explorer of the year – Sean McShea

Mr. McShea was involved as a member of the Explorer Program from November 2007 to December 2013, volunteering over 6 years to the Department and community. When Sean joined the Explorer Post in 2007, it was clear that police work was what he wanted to do. He dedicated hundreds of hours to the program and to the community through the various community service events that the post is involved in annually. Some of those events include the Law Enforcement Torch Run, the Unsung Heroes Banquet, Special Olympics, and various races sponsored by the community and the Tucson Police Foundation.

Mr. McShea has earned numerous awards from around the western United States for his service in the Explorer Program. He has competed at several Law Enforcement Explorer competitions in Colorado and Las Vegas, earning numerous awards and accolades for his performance in Law Enforcement Related scenarios. He truly carries himself in a manner that reflects well on the Tucson Police Department and the Explorer Program.

Along with this membership as an Explorer with the Tucson Police Explorer Post, Mr. McShea carries over a 3.0 GPA at the University of Arizona, majoring in Public Administration, and minoring in Sociology. Mr. McShea is also employed by the University of Arizona Police Department. He was a Community Service Officer from January 2011 until September 2012 then changed positions to Police Aide at UAPD in September 2012. This position carries with it many more responsibilities and he is still currently employed in that capacity. In March 2014, Mr. McShea embarked on his life-long goal of working in law enforcement by taking the test for Tucson Police Department Police Recruit. He is currently on the eligibility list and awaiting the remainder of the hiring process.

Mr. McShea is a great person, was a dedicated Explorer, and will make a valuable police officer. He has shown his dedication to the community and the Department by his years of service with the Explorer Post and is most deserving of the recognition of Explorer of the Year.
