Tucson driver to be charged in death of elderly woman

On March 13, 2014, at 11:28 a.m., Tucson Police Department officers responded to a report of a collision of a 1983 Chevrolet pick-up and a 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser at the intersection of Speedway Boulevard and Catalina Avenue.

The 60-year old male driver of the Chevrolet pick-up was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. His 55-year old male passenger had minor injuries but was not transported. The 72-year old female driver and the 90-year old female passenger of the PT Cruiser were transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries.

Patrol officers at the scene determined that the PT Cruiser was westbound on Speedway Boulevard in the inside lane.

The Chevrolet pick-up was northbound on Catalina Avenue and failed to yield from the stop sign at Speedway Boulevard, causing a collision.

During the initial investigation, officers determined that the male driver of the Chevrolet pick-up showed signs and symptoms of intoxication. A DUI investigation was completed, but he was not arrested that day due to his injuries.

On April 22nd, the female passenger of the PT Cruiser succumbed to complications that resulted from her injuries. She was identified as 90-year old Dorothy Hill. Felony charges are now pending for the driver of the Chevrolet pick-up.
