Detectives learned that the suspect, identified as 18-year old Said Camacho, was part of a much larger fraud ring that involved multiple other suspects. Camacho was arrested and booked into Pima County Jail on two counts of Forgery.
The Tucson Financial Task Force, which includes investigators from the Tucson Police Department, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Postal Service and South Tucson Police Department, continued the investigation. Investigators were able to track a group of possible suspects to the Red Roof Inn located in the 4900 block of West Ina Road and to an apartment in the 1900 block of West River Road.
They tracked those same individuals to several stores and different storage units throughout the Tucson area. Investigators were able to obtain a search warrant for the room at the Red Roof Inn as well as the apartment and different storage units. The Marana Police Department assisted the Task Force by providing video surveillance from the hotel as well as assisting with the warrant at that location. The warrants revealed several hundred credit cards as well as tools and machines for manufacturing and altering credit cards. They located digital media devices, such as thumb drives, containing hundreds of names with victim’s credit card information. There was also a large amount of new, un-opened boxed merchandise, such as tools, video game machines, flat screen televisions and IPad’s that are believed to have been purchased with the fraudulent credit cards.
As the investigation continued, investigators arrested five more suspects believed to be involved with the credit card fraud ring. Those individuals were booked into Pima County Jail. Additional charges are pending on all six of the suspects.
Due to the amount of credit cards and evidence to go through, the investigation is still on-going. It does not appear that the victims in this case are Tucson specific. The names on the credit cards were gained by hackers who breach data bases from different businesses around the world.
