Tucson man arrested for luring minor

In June of 2014, the Tucson Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit and the Child Sexual Assault Unit developed information that an adult Tucson area man had been contacting an underage female to meet for sexual purposes. During the investigation the suspect had telephone contact with a Tucson Police Detective who he believed to be an underage female.

The suspect agreed to meet the supposed underage female for the purposes of sexual conduct.

On June 11, 2014, Tucson Police Detectives with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals, took the suspect into custody without incident.

The suspect was identified as 33-year old Steven L. Cathcart. During the interview Mr. Cathcart admitted to his intentions of meeting the underage female for sex. The investigation and subsequent interviews revealed that Mr. Cathcart had also participated in sexual conduct with a minor on several different occasions in 2011.

Cathcart was booked into Pima County Jail for 6 counts of Sexual Conduct with a Minor (Class 2 Felony), Aggravated Luring of a Minor for Sexual Exploitation (Class 2 Felony), Luring a Minor for Sexual Exploitation (Class 3 Felony) and Sexual Abuse of a Minor (Class 3 Felony).
