Drugs, vehicles seized at San Luis, Douglas ports

A 39-year-old female Mexican national was arrested last Saturday for attempting to smuggle marijuana through the Port of Douglas.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers selected a Chevrolet SUV, driven by Rosario Garcia-Torrez, for further inspection. A CBP narcotics detection canine helped officers locate more than 214 pounds of marijuana within four of the truck’s tires, as well as underneath the hood.

The drugs, valued at an estimated $107,000, and vehicle were seized. Garcia was referred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

A San Luis, Sonora, Mexico woman and a Yuma man were arrested over last weekend for attempting to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine in separate incidents into the United States.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers Friday arrested a 36-year-old Yuma man after a narcotics detection canine alerted officers to 21 packages of crystal meth in the doors and rear seats of his Toyota sedan.  The drugs, worth nearly $104,000 and with a total weight of nearly 35 pounds, and vehicle were seized.

Sunday, officers referred a 33-year-old San Luis, Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico woman for further questioning as she entered through the pedestrian crossing. Officers located traces of marijuana within her handbag leading to a search and the discovery of four packages of heroin wrapped around the woman’s mid-section. The drugs weighed just over ten pounds and have an estimated value of more than $141,000.

Both subjects were referred to U.S. Immigration and Custom’s Enforcements’ Homeland Security Investigations. The drugs and the vehicle were seized.
