CBP confirms Mexican troops fired on Border Patrol agents

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has confirmed that at approximately 5:45 a.m. Thursday morning, a Mexican law enforcement helicopter crossed approximately 100 yards north into Arizona nearly 8 miles southwest of the Village of San Miguel on the Tohono O’odham Indian Nation while on a law enforcement operation near the border. Two shots were fired from the helicopter but no injuries or damage to U.S. property were reported.

The incident is currently under investigation, according to a statement released by Victor Brabble, of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Art del Cueto, president of the Tucson Sector Border Patrol union said that the helicopter went back into Mexico. According to Cueto, Mexico then contacted U.S. authorities and apologized for the incident.

On June 25, National Border Patrol Council representative Shawn Moran told KGBT News that 45% of the agents in Texas were processing illegal aliens and taking care of paperwork. He said that because there is a small percentage working in the field, “the lives of our agents are at risk and the security of our nation is at risk.”
