Sierra Vista Hikers Located Safely After Ramsey Canyon Hike

On Thursday July 3, 2014 at approximately 7:00 pm, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised of overdue hikers in the Ramsey Canyon area.

The woman calling advised that her 70 year old husband and his 69 year old brother had gone hiking at 7:00 am to hike in Ramsey Canyon, which they have done many times in the past.

The woman advised that when she could not reach her husband she drove to Ramsey Canyon and located the vehicle with a phone still inside of it. The woman advised that she could not locate the men in the immediate area.

Search and Rescue personnel responded to the area and started teams in Brown Canyon, Ramsey Canyon, and from the top of Carr Canyon to search for the two hikers.

The Ramsey Canyon team located the men safely who advised that they were hiking and got off the trail and became lost before the rain started and it became dark outside. The men had an emergency blanket that they wrapped up in to keep warm and waited for help to come.

The Search and Rescue team walked the two men out to their vehicle where they advised they were only cold and thirsty. After getting a sweatshirt and some water, the two men drove themselves home.
