U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the DeConcini crossing selected a 34-year-old Mexican national for further questioning as he attempted to enter the United States in a Honda sedan Tuesday. After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs, officers found nearly $50,000 worth of methamphetamine in the vehicle’s spare tire.
The day before, officers at the same crossing selected a 23-year old Mexican national, for further questioning as he attempted to enter the United States in a Chevrolet sedan. A drug detection canine then alerted officers to 13 pounds of heroin, valued at nearly $185,000, concealed within the vehicle’s frame.Thirteen pounds of heroin were seized by CBP officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing in Nogales, Ariz.
Both men were referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. Their vehicles and drugs were seized.
