Tucson crash victim identified

The woman who was killed on August 14, 2014, in a vehicle collision at the intersection of Tucson Boulevard and Drexel Road has been identified as 22 year-old Patricia Martinez.

On August 14, officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision at the intersection of Tucson Boulevard and Drexel Road. Upon arrival, officers located a 1980 Nissan pickup and a 2014 Freightliner box truck that had been involved in a serious collision. The box truck continued after the collision and struck two houses before coming to rest. The 32-year old male driver of the box truck was transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries. The 33-year old male driver of the Nissan pickup was transported to a local area hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Patricia Martinez, the passenger in the Nissan pickup was pronounced deceased at the scene. No residents from either home were injured.

Tucson Police Traffic Detectives responded to continue the investigation. They determined that the Nissan pickup was westbound on Drexel Road. The box truck was southbound on Tucson Boulevard and entered the intersection on a green light. The Nissan pickup ran the red light and was struck by the box truck. The collision caused the Nissan pickup to rotate and come to rest at the southwest corner of the intersection. The box truck jumped the west curb, drove through a block wall and came to rest between two houses, striking them both.
