Cochise County businesses caught selling alcohol to minors

Seven Cochise County businesses sold alcohol to minors during a recent Covert Underage Buying (C.U.B.S.) operation, although four businesses that sold alcohol to a minor during the June operation did not sell this time.

Fifty businesses in the Cochise County area were selected for the August 8 operation, based on previous enforcement of liquor violations, complaints from citizens and other factors. The business establishments targeted consisted of both on sale and off sale liquor licenses.

The operation was conducted by the Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force, with 16 officers from the Sierra Vista Police Department and Cochise County Sheriff Office. Ten teens between the ages of 16 and 19 volunteered their Friday night to aid in the operation. The volunteers carried their own state issued IDs clearly indicating they were under 21 years of age.

Seven businesses in Cochise County were cited for selling alcohol to minors, including Fry’s Food Store and Shell Gas Station, both located in Sierra Vista; Western Junction Bar & Grill, located in McNeal; Ray’s Restaurant and Sunset Saloon, located in Huachuca City; Loves and Arena Bar, both located in Benson.
