The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to a Sierra Vista resident who reported a phone scam. The caller advised that he received a call from a 202 area code and a man claiming to be with the IRS.
The caller told the potential victim that he owed back taxes and if they were not paid immediately, the Sheriff’s Office would come to his house to arrest him. The potential victim advised that he did not send money but he was concerned that others may fall victim to this scam.
Sheriff Dannels said, “There are too many times that ruthless criminals are able to prey on others through scams such as this. Please be aware that you need to protect yourself by NEVER giving out any personal information to callers or sending money to those who you do not know.”
