The suspect was not wearing any pants, exposing his genitalia and began masturbating in front of her. The victim hurried to her home where she met her father who was just arriving.
The father immediately got back into his vehicle and began to follow the suspect as he drove around to another neighborhood in the area of 19th Av and Indian School Road. The father watched as the suspect began to drive slowly near another young school girl in a school uniform. For an unknown reason, the suspect, later identified as Danny Ray Jones, suddenly sped away and the father lost sight of him. The father was able to get the license plate of the pickup.
The father relayed the information to Phoenix Police officers and a records check on the vehicle showed the owner to be Danny Ray Jones and a background check on Jones revealed him to be a registered sex offender.
Phoenix Police detectives went to Jones’ registered home address and waited for his return. At around 6:30pm a patrol officer observed Jones’ vehicle in the area of his house driving on the wrong side of the road and a traffic stop was initiated.
Jones made admission to being in the area where the victim had been walking and he admitted to being in his truck naked and masturbating. Jones was later booked into jail on one count of Indecent Exposure, a class 3 felony.
Police say the incident is indicative of just how important having a continuing conversation with our children about “Stranger Danger” is.
