Mohave County 9-year-old girl accidentally shoots instructor in the head

Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an accidental shooting at an outdoor shooting range on Monday morning after a 9-year-old girl accidentally shot her instructor in the head. At about 10:00 a.m., deputies responded to the scene at the Last Stop business located at 20606 North Highway 93 in White Hills.

The instructor identified as Charles Vacca, 39, of Lake Havasu City, was airlifted to a medical center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Vacca was pronounced dead on the evening of Monday, August 25, at the University Medical Center at 8:56 p.m.

Investigators determined that Mr. Vacca was standing next to the girl while he was instructing her how to use to weapon when the accident happened. The weapon was on full automatic when the girl pulled the trigger and the recoil sent the gun over her head
and the victim was shot.

The autopsy will be performed by the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office in Nevada.
