Tesla teases cities, but picks Reno for battery factory

For months Tesla Motors have played cities against each other for the possibility of becoming the home of their battery factory. While cities like Reno took that matter seriously and fought hard for the opportunity, the City of Tucson, which is generally adverse to industry pulled stunts.

Telsa is planning to build its giant battery factory in Nevada after a five-state competition, according to USAToday. Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval has called for a press conference for later today for a “major economic development announcement.” According to USAToday, Tesla had no official comment Wednesday on the pending announcement. “We continue to work with the state of Nevada,” Tesla spokesman Simon Sproule said.

On July 31, Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild said, “This is a concrete sign that, not only can we act expeditiously, but we’re ready,” after he made taken gesture by sending a meaningless building permit to Tesla Motors, in an effort to look proactive.

The proposed Gigafactory is expected to create more than six thousand jobs from the battery factory by 2020.

Arizona was one of five states in the running for the factory location.
