Pima County is experiencing an increase in the number of syphilis cases. In 2012 there were 31. As of July 2014, the number of cases has reached 77.

Most (72%) cases occurred in men less than 40 years of age who report sex with other men. According to the Pima County Health Department, in this population 1 of 3 report being infected with HIV.

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection. It is easy to become infected and it is easy to cure with testing and treatment.
