Armed masked man robs two northwest convenience stores


September 16, 2014, at approximately 5:45 a.m.

Foothills District deputies responded to the Diamond Shamrock, located at 8395 North Thornydale Road, reference a robbery. When deputies arrived, they learned a masked man, armed with a hammer entered the store, looked around to make sure it was empty and then approached the cashier. The suspect raised the hammer above his head as if he was going to strike the cashier and demanded money. The cashier gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect left the store and fled to the west, leaving the cashier unharmed.

September 21, 2014, at approximately 4:45 a.m.:
Foothills District deputies responded to the QuikMart, located at 3250 W. Cortaro Farms Road, reference an armed robbery. When deputies arrived, they learned the clerk was in front of the store when a masked male armed with a shotgun approached and demanded money. The suspect followed the clerk inside the store and was given an undisclosed amount of cash. After getting the money, the suspect fled the store on foot to the west. The clerk was not injured.

The suspect in both incidents is described as:

 Male, race unknown
 5’7” – 5’10” tall
 Medium build
 Wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a Nike swoosh on the front
 Blue jeans
 Freddy Krueger style mask and white gloves

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Department Robbery/Assault Unit are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME –
