Suspect Wanted for Business Burglary in Black Canyon City

On October 5, 2014, around 11:30 PM, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a burglary in progress at the Rock Springs Café in the 35000 block of S. Old Black Canyon Highway, Black Canyon City. The suspect fled after the reporting party, a manager for the business, fired “warning shots” from a rifle. The manager provided the following details:

He went to the café after receiving a call from the alarm company indicating a possible break-in. Because he lives in the area, he arrived quickly and immediately noticed a suspect moving the business safe out of the office with a dolly. While outside in view of the suspect, the manager fired a couple of warning shots from his rifle and eventually went to the back of the café. At this point he could see that the safe was still in the building and it appeared the suspect had fled out the back door. The manager briefly entered the café and confirmed no one was inside and contacted authorities while maintaining security until deputies arrived.

During the investigation, deputies discovered the suspect was able to turn off the power to the building and force the rear door open to access the office. It did appear the suspect fled quickly, likely due to the gunshots, leaving the safe and other valuables behind.

The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’ 9” and 220 pounds, wearing a dark blue or black long sleeve shirt, black pants, and a black ski mask. He was last seen running into the desert. No vehicle was seen or heard.

Deputies continue their investigation which will include a review of security video and processing of physical evidence gathered at the scene.
