Yuma sector seized nearly $850,000 of drugs at the end of October

Yuma Sector Border Patrol Agents seized 189.5 pounds of marijuana, nearly 25 pounds of heroin and almost 30 pounds of methamphetamine during separate incidents on Oct. 29.

Agents responded to a group of individuals walking north toward Intestate 8 and arrested two individuals hiding under a tree next to four backpacks of marijuana.  A third man, whose footprints matched those found around the bundles, was located and arrested shortly after.  All three men admitted to entering the U.S. illegally and were turned over to the Maricopa County Sherriff’s Office, along with the marijuana worth an estimated $94,750.

Blythe Station agents stopped a vehicle on Interstate 10 near the California-Arizona state line and obtained permission from the driver to search the vehicle.  During the search, agents found 27 cellophane-wrapped packages hidden within the vehicle’s rear seats. Eleven of the packages contained $348,440 worth of heroin 16 contained methamphetamine valued at approximately $89,400. The drugs and driver were taken to Blythe Station for processing.

Ina separate incident agents from the Wellton Station seized 624 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $312,000, during multiple operations Friday morning  October 31.

Agents apprehended two subjects headed north toward Tacna and seized six burlap sacks containing more than 268 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $134,200.

In another location, agents intercepted two members of a group spotted earlier walking north through the desert toward Gila Bend. When agents arrived at the location where the group was last seen, they found two men and four backpacks containing more than 196 pounds of marijuana valued at an estimated $98,200.

Agents patrolling near Gila Bend found 159.2 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $79,600, along with two individuals suspected to be part of a group agents were tracking in the desert south of Interstate 8.

All individuals apprehended admitted to being in the U.S. illegally and were transported to Wellton Station for further processing, along with the seized marijuana, per Yuma Sector guidelines.
