McSally, Barber in tight race

The Republicans poured nearly everything they had into the race, yet the race between Martha McSally and incumbent Ron Barber is too close to call. While republicans swept offices across the country, the Arizona GOP has struggled to capitalize on President Obama’s unpopularity in the Republican leaning CD2.

McSally could pull out a win, with the help of Cochise County votes. Cochise County has been slow to tabulate even early ballots and had not begun to process votes cast on Tuesday at polling places.

The race is almost a replay of the 2012, in which the two faced off. In 2012, McSally lost that race to Barber by nearly 2,500 votes.

As of 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, McSally held a .02 percent lead with 158,208 ballots counted and approximately 32,000 ballots still yet to be processed.

Barber told supporters, “We’re going to make sure every last ballot is counted. We’re going to win this race,” said Barber.
