While patrolling State Route 85 in the Ajo area, an agent noticed a vehicle slow down and pull over to the side of the road. When the agent stopped to offer assistance, he noticed that the driver and passengers appeared extremely nervous. He also noticed sugar sacks in the vehicle, which are commonly used for drug smuggling.
After careful observation and conversation with the driver and passengers, the agent conducted an immigration inspection and learned the two passengers were illegal immigrants from Mexico. A subsequent search of the vehicle also revealed $10,000.
All individuals were taken into custody. The currency and vehicle were processed for seizure in accordance with Tucson Sector guidelines.
